kNIGHT SERIES ONLINE MAGAZINE
Interview with Erotic Romance Author Keta Diablo
Tell Us Your Latest News:
I love talking about my new release so thank you for asking. Where The Rain Is Made, a paranormal/time travel/shapeshifter was released by Decadent Publishing on August 27th. The title has piqued the interest of many readers. A reviewer recently said, ‘When I first picked up the book I thought, what a silly title for a book, but now, I get tears in my eyes thinking about Where The Rain Is Made.’
Here’s the blurb:
After a decadent-looking savage captures Francesca DuVall and her brother Marsh, she spends every waking moment planning an escape. She didn’t count on the powerful draw of desire interfering with her scheme while in the clutches of the brutal Cheyenne Dog Soldiers.
Ethan Gray is a curator at a national museum . . . most of the time. When he travels through time to help his beloved People he’s Meko, leader of the most revered and feared tribe of the plains. Their worlds are decades apart and yet Meko can’t resist the dark beauty he kidnapped during a raid. Violent battles loom on the horizon, but there’s only one he must win at all costs – the capture of Cesca’s heart forever.
From the windswept plains of Colorado and the harsh life of a Dog Soldier to the placid life of a curator, their love was fueled by passion and kindled by destiny.
When and why did you begin writing?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always written in one form or another, but mostly for own pleasure. Several years ago, I wrote a novel based on a true-life family story, one slow chapter at a time (Holding On To Heaven). I submitted to a small press and was accepted. Although I no longer write for them, I’m very indebted and grateful that they saw something they liked in my first book. In 2008, I submitted a historical novel, Decadent Deceptions, to the Molly Contest and finaled in the Erotic Romance category. The rest, as they say is history, and I haven’t stopped writing since.

What do you like to do when you are not writing?
I lead a very mundane life, really, but enjoy the solitude and slow pace. I live on six acres of beautiful woodland in the Midwest, complete with an environmental lake, loons (the winged version) barred owls and eagles. When the weather cooperates, I spend as much time outdoors as possible either gardening or sitting by the lake writing. When the cold wind blows, I read, watch movies and, of course, write. I’m also a huge animal lover and spend far too much time at my local shelter doing what I can to help the neglected and abandoned animals. Two years ago, I adopted Emma LaPounce when I discovered they hadn’t been able to place her and her future looked very bleak. She’s a lovely companion and loves her new home.
What inspired you to write your first book?
It’s really a very basic answer, my love of the written word. I find it absolutely intriguing that good writers have the ability to string a bunch of words together and create amazing characters and scenes. Writing is hard work, and I do mean work. I hear so many people say, “I think I’ll write a book,” and I say to myself, Good luck with that. Yet, I don’t think there’s a greater profession in the world. It still amazes me that one gets paid for doing what one immensely enjoys. Again, what could be better than that?
Ah, the story itself of course. You can have the most fascinating characters but without a great plot, the characters won’t do you much good. I think people love to immerse themselves in fictitious worlds where ordinary people prevail and triumph. Whether that’s an alternate world or our world as we know it, it’s human nature to root for the hero or heroine, journey with them as they overcome insurmountable odds and defeat villains. But that world better be compelling, complete with twisted paths and surprising circumstances. One good example is Cold Mountain. Yes, the characters were engrossing, but what happened to them along their journeys made this a stellar read.
How do you want readers to feel after they read your stories?
What is your favorite character out of all the books you have written?
This is hard because it’s like asking me which one of my children I adore the most. Of course, I love them all equally. But … Sophia from Land of Falling Stars is a conundrum, and Frank McGuire, a private investigator from my Gay Fiction CROSSROADS series is pretty hard to top. Several reviewers have said, “Ms. Diablo loves to write the politically incorrect characters.” I take that as a compliment. I don’t care for cookie-cutter characters, and strive hard not to make them perfect. Humans are not perfect. We all come with warts and blemishes so why shouldn’t our characters? Frank is not a likeable guy at times, and many reviewers have said they wanted to strangle Sophia because she was a spoiled brat. I say, “That’s great.” If a writer can wring emotion from the reader about a character, hate, dislike, anger, love, whatever, they’ve done their job. I don’t like reading about stereotype characters and although I don’t go out of my way to make them unlikable, I write them as I see them. If people don’t like them at times, that’s all right. I didn’t want the reader to adore them on every page.

Can you share a little of your current work with us?
I’m sort of at my own crossroads right now with my writing. The industry is in a real flux. Ebooks are exploding all over the Internet, the future of paperbacks or mass market trade books is up in the air, and new epublishing houses are opening left and right. I’m sitting on the fence looking at all this and wondering what will happen when the dust settles? Also, many of my author friends are venturing into self-publishing, testing the waters to see if they can be successful at this. I do some of both, write for some wonderful houses and also publish some of my books on Amazon Kindle. And in the meantime, I’m still writing. I don’t know where those books will end up, but I must write, every day, even if it’s gibberish on the page.
What are some of the goals and future plans with your writing?
I’m plotting and outlining the sequel to Where The Rain Is Made and working on A Texas Ranger series. I also have some sequels to finish for a few novellas I’ve written. I’m never lacking for work, just time. And finally, I’m outlining a trilogy, paranormal, and I can’t say too much about it right now. But this looks promising and it’s a topic I’ve wanted to explore for a long time. Stay tuned for more about this by following my Erotic Romance blog, Keta’s Keep, http://ketaskeep.blogspot.com
Thank you so much for inviting me to interview on your wonderful site. I recently discovered the kNight Online Magazine and just love it! Can’t wait now for all the future issues to come out. Kudos and fantastic job on the magazine!

Ethan Gray is a curator at a national museum...most of the time, but when he travels through time to help his beloved People he’s Meko, the leader of the most revered and feared tribes of the plains. Although their worlds are decades apart Meko can’t resist the dark beauty he kidnaps during a raid. I obtained the above information from Ms. Keta's website. Here is my review...
Ms. Keta will take you on a ride of a lifetime. I feel the need to tell you a few things though... First, buckle up because it will be one hell'va ride.
Second, this is a historical - but not the kind you would think. No ball gowns and corsets. No horse drawn carriage. No coats and ties. This is a Native American Indian historical. War paint, hatchets, white vs. reds, rituals and spirits. At first I did not think i would take to the story. But Ms. Keta immediately took me by complete surprise. This really is an amazing story of how literally two worlds collided and just how they survived.
The journey is well worth it.... I promise!
This story will take you back to a time when war truly meant war. Lives lost all for a higher cause, battles fought for the right to live, the right to be on one's own land. Ms. Diablo brings this story alive with just her words. So well that I could smell the earthly smells for the horses, the smell of the smoke, the woods. I could feel the panic rising, the love growing from each character.
And speaking of characters - Ms. Keta also did a fabulous job of bringing to life each one of her characters - no matter how small their part might have been. Ms. Keta brought out the emotion of each one. She made me, the reader, feel for each one and their circumstances. Whether the feelings were pride, love, hatred or just admiration.
Speaking of pride and love - these are definitely two traits that Francesca and Ethan have in spades. Francesca's love for her family will make you question your own devotion to your family. She literally would have died for her family. her mother passed away giving birth to her younger brother. She is a strong willed woman, stopping at nothing to protect her family. She is also stubborn as a mule - which makes me respect her even more. She would sacrifice everything - even herself - for the people she loves. What would you sacrifice for those you love?
Ethan is a man that will knock you off your socks. He is all alpha and alllll male! He is a time traveler in his tribe. One of the few of within his community. Ethan lives among two worlds. But his pride in his People run as deep as the deepest part of the ocean. His love for his community and their traditions will pour through the pages. But if the choice to give up a world for the one he is truly meant to love.... what would he do??
This story will take you to another time and place. You will find yourself cheering on some characters, wanting to beat the crap (like to death) out of others and secretly rooting for others! You won't be able to help it. You will even find yourself smiling for some of the old wisdom that is laced in the story.
Love never changes, it does not matter what time period you are in.... Love is constant. Love means fighting for what you want, what you desire and simply put - what your heart and soul needs. Fran and Ethan are a great example of this type of determination in love. You will find yourself embracing these two with your heart and wanting the best outcome for both of them. But sometimes the best outcome is not always the easiest one.
Just remember, Cesca is stronger than she appears, but her soul is very fragile. Can Ethan prove to her that he will be there to take care of her - heart and soul. When surrounded by so much war and death, will Cesca come to accept the ways of which Ethan's people live. How will this end if or when Ethan has to return to the present day? Does love survive when torn between two worlds? Let's find out......
On a side note, the only thing that kinda had me was remembering the true Indian given names. But in pointing this out, I have to give major props to Ms. Keta for keeping it real!!!

And remember... Keep it Dirty, Smutty & Hussy!
